Software Development Background

‘Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.’ – Mark Twain

In September of 1979, I found that job. I was hired by AT&T to attend a 6-month Programmer Basic Training school designed to teach degreed ‘Science’ majors to write Common Business Oriented Language (COBOL) programs for their Long Distance Telephone Service division. In a career that spans 40 plus years, I was blessed to be able to learn to write software programs for mainframe computers, minicomputers, desktop/laptop computers, mobile tablets, and cell phones. This career evolution required I teach myself each computer’s operating system and their associated programming languages, including most of the web browser scripting languages.

In early 2010, our son, Nate began working for Motorola Mobility as a Mobile phone designer. Knowing my love for developing software and learning new computer operating systems, Nate gave me a Zoom tablet and two Atrix cell phones that he built from spare parts in his desk drawer. These gifts lead to my first Android App, Daily Bread, being created. Since then, I have developed My Armor, eggWISE Mobile, and Book, Chapter, Verse. The eggWISE app is currently being revised and will be available on the Google Play Store soon. The others have been unpublished until I can bring them up-to-date to the current Android operating system release.

As you can see, I have been on the leading edge of computing technology from its beginning in the mid-1970s through its evolution to the current mobile computing stage. It continues to be a challenging and rewarding, and sometimes fun, 40+ years in computing technology.
